CNC Turning

Our Machinery

Our Turning section comprises of nine various CNC lathes.

Four lathes with Y Axis and live tooling with the capacity of machining bar of up to Ø3” and up to Ø10” material in billet form. Three of the four having sub-spindles giving us the possibility to mill/turn components as well as transferring components from the main spindle to sub-spindle giving us the ability to machine components in one cycle.

A lathe with live tooling and C axis with a capacity of machining bar of Ø1 5/8” and the possibility of holding Ø6” in billet form. This machine is used to machine smaller sized components which require less complex milling features.

We then have four 2 axis lathes varying in sizes with the largest being able to machine Ø2” bar diameter and hold up to Ø8” in billet form to produce turned components to the highest of standards for small to large batch sizes.

Six of our CNC lathes also have automatic bar feed capabilities which are beneficial to high batch quantities to maximise productivity.

Increased Productivity

With this investment it has greatly increased productivity even with the extra time for setting, which has meant that this section is now on a par with the milling area.

The machines now achieve greater accuracies so that it cuts out some of the sub-contracting, have greater reliability and with a controlled maintenance program have minimum disruption to our production. All of the machines are DNC linked so that programming can either be done at the machine or for the more difficult components offline on our CAD system.

R&D Capability

As with the milling section the skills of the staff in this area means that we are able to work on one off R&D prototypes with a rapid turnaround to the machining of small, medium or large batches of precision components in most ferrous and non-ferrous materials as well as ceramics and plastics.
